Thousands of Johns Manville employees participate in fourth Global Community Day

Johns Manville (JM), a Berkshire Hathaway company and leading building products manufacturer, held its fourth “Global Community Day” this month to support local, community service organizations and promote employee volunteerism. More than 1,000 JM employees worldwide volunteered nearly 3,500 hours, participating in almost 60 events and activities.

Global Community Day was launched in 2018 as part of Johns Manville’s Corporate Social Responsibility program. JM’s community investment strategy is employee driven, meaning the company supports causes and programs selected by its employees. Each Global Community Day activity was organized by a different company department or location.

In the Denver area, where Johns Manville is headquartered, employees observed Global Community Day by maintaining open space and recreation areas, caring for gardens that grow vegetables for under-resourced families, and serving meals to unhoused people and families of ill children staying at the Ronald McDonald House, among other projects. Two of the largest activities were a Habitat for Humanity home construction and a bike build with Denver-based Wish for Wheels, a nonprofit organization that gives new bicycles and helmets to children in low-income communities.

At plant locations around the world, employees delivered meals to the elderly, volunteered at a therapeutic ranch for animals and children, conducted drives for local food banks and served at a respite care facility for people living with physical and intellectual disabilities.

“Global Community Day demonstrates the commitment JM employees have for the people and places where we live and work,” said President and CEO Bob Wamboldt. “Volunteering helps our communities and makes our teams around the world stronger. We are pleased so many JM employees participated this year, and we look forward to finding even more ways to make the world around us better.”
