Honoring a Veteran with Improved Home Comfort and Efficiency

Providing comfort and improving energy efficiency for our customers – those are two of the pillars of JM’s line of building insulation products. When we can add in our passion for people and help out a worthy cause, it’s even better.

It’s why JM is honored to be featured as the insulation partner in Season 36 of the Lifetime TV show Military Makeover. The show “offers hope and a helping hand on the home front to members of our military and their loved ones.” The special series enlists designers, contractors, landscapers and other home improvement professionals – including manufacturers like Johns Manville – to transform the homes and lives of military families.

Military Makeover with Montel® is led by talk show legend and military advocate Montel Williams, who is a veteran of both the Marine Corps and the Navy. He is proud to serve those who dedicated their lives to serving the United States military.

In making over the home of Carlos Colón-Ruiz, of Arlington, Texas, Johns Manville blowing wool was used to bring his attic insulation up to code and to make the garage a more comfortable space. This will help keep the family cooler in the hot summers of Texas and warmer in the crisp winter temps.

The home’s existing attic insulation was approximately R15, which was likely the code requirement when the home was built. The addition of JM insulation during the makeover brought it up to current Texas code of R38.

“This was an opportunity for us to use our product to better a family’s life,” said Tommy Knappich, VP & General Manager for Building Insulation at JM. “By partnering with the show, we continue to establish JM as an industry leader, expert and manufacturer of choice.” After being presented with the opportunity for JM to be the insulation partner on this season’s makeover, we consulted with our local territory manager and chose a great partner of ours, Builders’ Insulation, to be the installer. We’re grateful to work with some great contractors and installers such as Builders’ Insulation, a company that was willing to donate time and labor to this deserving family.

Some of our building insulation marketing staff was onsite for the filming process (Associate Marketing Manager Molly Morrow was interviewed – you can watch the show clip featuring JM here) and returned for the filming of “reveal day.” They joined other supplier partners, neighbors, local groups and Colon-Ruiz’s family as a cheering section when the family saw their made-over house for the first time.

“People are part of our values,” Knappich said. “It’s important to us to be able to help people and use our products to better people’s lives. It’s important for us to give back to the community, and this was a great way to do it.”
