JM Richland Pitches in to Help Tornado Victims

JMers from the Richland, Mississippi, plant recently pitched in to help victims of a tornado that ripped through nearby Rolling Fork. The tornado on March 24, 2023 destroyed about 300 homes and businesses, and killed 13 of the town’s nearly 1,700 residents.

Lee Young, Plant Manager, Willie Smith, Superintendent, Alice Toombs, Quality Technician, and Julio Morales, Process Engineer, joined with the JM Experience Team (JET) and the broader JM family at the Richland plant to collect household necessities to help the tornado victims. The donated items were loaded onto a truck sponsored by television station WLBT which is delivering items to victims on a weekly basis.

“We are just doing what we can,” Young said.

The twister destroyed much of Rolling Fork and was categorized as an EF4 with wind speeds up to 170 miles per hour.

“It laid waste to entire blocks, leaving many to wonder whether their small-town bonds and shared heritage will be enough to convince one another to stay and try to rebuild,” Smith said.

Nicely done, Richland JMers, for helping your community when it needed you most!
